You have reached the Home Page of the Stargazer Foundation, which was founded in 1999 and ceased its operations in 2012.
The overarching mission of the nonprofit Stargazer Foundation was to Harness the Power of Technology for Social Good and its principal activities centered around providing an Online Service for Social Good. Stargazer’s initial focus was on improving and making more widely available the online educational opportunities for children from pre-school through high school. After the events of 9/11/2001, many people realized that Stargazer’s technology could also be used for emergency preparedness and response, both for responsible organizations and for ordinary citizens. Stargazer’s focus evolved and the Foundation provided many safety tools and capabilities to planners, responders, and individuals.
The Stargazer Foundation received the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments 2004 Regional Partnership Award for its Contribution to Emergency Preparedness and Public Safety in the National Capital Region. From 2001 through 2008, Stargazer expanded its safety activities worldwide and partnered with many companies and organizations, both governmental and non-governmental. By 2008, as mobile and online technologies proliferated, the need for Stargazer’s safety capabilities began to be filled by a variety of other readily available technologies, and Stargazer returned to its education roots, promoting Open Educational Services.
All good things come to pass, and the Stargazer Foundation has now terminated its activities. Stargazer expresses its gratitude to the thousands of people and organizations who played a role in helping the Foundation in its missions of education and safety. Those who have benefitted from our collective endeavors are the true beneficiaries.
